ON-SITE CAMPS
Headquartered out of historic Palmyra, NY our 13-acre homestead provides participants a vast array of opportunities to fully immerse themselves into our nation's past. Suit up in our colonial garb, load up your haversack, and imagine the possibilities: 18th century encampments; putting together a colonial dinner replete with open-hearth cooking, candle-making, and dance lessons...whatever your cup of tea (hand-brewed, of course!), we've got an adventure of historic proportions waiting for you!
THE CONTINENTAL (ages 8-11)
Relive the excitement of a Revolutionary War encampment! Report to the recruiting sergeant, make your mark, and grab your rations, uniform and trusty rubberband musket (not to mention your first continental paycheck!) Then it's off to the parade ground for flag raising, setting up tents, preparing cook fires and learning how to march and patrol like a true continental soldier. Prepare your noon meal over hot coals and fire irons while reflecting on the upcoming mission. Try your hand at some soldiering games and chores before heading off to the firing line for instruction in archery. Then it's off to the parade ground to practice military maneuvers and tactics. Put all your newly acquired skills together as your squad moves out for a final patrol through the woods and cornfields. Just enough time left to drain your canteen, break camp and lower the flag before returning to the 21st century.
9 AM - 3 PM $125
THE HEARTH AND HOME (ages 7-9 and 10-12)
Don your apron and grab your sugar nips...whoever knew that "tending house" could be so much fun! Begin the day by starting the cookfires for the noon meal; tend the hearth, mold your own beeswax candles, boil up a batch of walnut ink, churn some butter and feed the livestock. Next, try your hand at some 18th century toys and games (Snip, Snap, Snorem, anyone?)
Depending on the time of year, you might be gathering berries and vegetables, washing and ironing linens, gathering water from the well, gathering maple sap, making "jackwax", filling straw tic mattresses, making corn husk dolls, shooting archery, making soap or experimenting with a myriad of other traditional happenings.
Finish your day with a colonial tea party with fresh-brewed tea (hot chocolate available for those who choose not to pay the outrageous British tea tax!), home-made pastries and a quick lesson in the latest dance craze, "Haste to the Wedding."
9AM - 3 PM $125
THE RANGER (ages 13 and up)
If you've ever wanted to experience the thrill of being an elite colonial soldier on patrol, then this is the program for you! It's the French and Indian War, and you have volunteered for His Majesty's Rangers. Hone your patrolling skills through field and wood, prepare meals with your flint and steel fire-making kit, forge your own musket balls and wood working skills, try your hand at archery or the balloon target air rifle course! Be prepared to go on patrol, practice navigation, and even conduct a raid on an enemy position before settling into your colonial tents and straw mattresses for some well-deserved rest and vituals. And you'll leave having experienced something few civilians ever will: a day in the life of the Rangers...Rangers lead the way!
